SPARC Book Club - "10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People"
The SPARC Book Club brings members together around timely ideas that stretch our thinking, strengthen our leadership, and help us connect the day-to-day work of summer and auxiliary programs to the larger educational mission of our schools. It is also a casual way to connect with our auxiliary and summer programs colleagues!
For 2026–27, we will offer three SPARC Book Club selections connected by a simple progression:
Purpose • Experience • Leadership
SPRING: LEADERSHIP
10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People — David Yeager
Few school leaders work with the 10-to-25 age range as extensively as auxiliary and summer folks! That's why this book club pick focuses on developing the next generation of talent.
Our programs may serve children and teenagers while also employing CITs, LITs, high-school students, college students, and emerging professionals. As a result, auxiliary leaders have an extraordinary opportunity and responsibility to develop young people not only as participants, but also as employees and future leaders.
David Yeager explores the science of motivating young people and the importance of combining high expectations with respect, autonomy, and meaningful responsibility.
SPARC Discussion Query:
How can we become better leaders of the young people we serve and employ?
Timed intentionally before the summer season, this discussion will explore motivation, feedback, accountability, staff development, autonomy, coaching, CIT/LIT programs, and the transition from young employee to emerging leader.
