WEBINAR - After-School Programs That Deliver Real Impact
After-school programming plays a critical role in serving students, families, and school missions - but designing programs that truly work requires intentional structure, strong leadership, and continuous improvement. Join the SPARC team and special guests as we explore best practices for designing and strengthening after-school programs that meet the developmental needs of elementary and middle school students.
This working webinar will examine key design questions, including ideal schedules, the role of homework, and effective program models. We’ll also dive into leadership and management strategies that support staff success, from meaningful check-ins and effective weekly and monthly meetings to staff evaluation and ongoing professional development. Participants will be introduced to practical frameworks that have proven successful at SPARC schools and will have the opportunity to share their own challenges and priorities.
This webinar will also actively engage participants in shaping what comes next. Help us gather input on extended day staff training needs to inform the design of future SPARC professional learning programs, ensuring they are practical, relevant, and school-centered. Participant insights will also help guide the focus areas of an upcoming SPARC Pulse Survey on after-school programming, creating a shared understanding of challenges, opportunities, and areas for growth across schools. Come ready to learn, brainstorm with peers, and leave with actionable ideas you can apply immediately.
PRESENTERS: Bob Rojee, SPARC Senior Advisor; Karen McCann McClelland, Executive Director of Auxiliary Programs, Sidwell Friends School and SPARC Senior Advisor, and special guests.
